A friendly run-in with local police
A few weeks back, mom brought a brand new Ohio State Buckeye dog coat home for me. One of our friends gave it to me. It was very cool. When we went out for our walk mom put my new coat on me….Madison was dressed up too and the neighbors commented on how great we looked in our winter outfits.
On our way back home the Velcro on my coat slipped and it fell off. Mom didn’t notice it because she and Patti were yakking…as usual. When we got home, mom finally noticed my missing coat. I was thinking…. “what am I going to wear at the football games next year”?? Mom gave me my chicken stew and she and I went back out to find my coat. We got into the truck and drove very slowly up and down the street looking everywhere. We made two trips back and forth. Then Aunt Patti called and asked us to pick her up and she would help us look. We picked her up and we continued to go slowly up and down the street looking for my “all important”, scarlet and gray coat.
Aunt Patti shouted “There it is”. She got out of truck, picked it up and hopped back in the truck. I was so happy!!!
We started back to our homes and suddenly red and blue flashing lights were pulling us over for some kind of traffic violation….yes it was our very friendly Columbus Police Department officers. Two officers approached the truck and asked mom for her driver’s license. She said “What’s the problem….I know we weren’t speeding” she was laughing as usual…..but the officers weren’t laughing. The officers checked our credentials and determined that we did live in the neighbor hood. We found out that due to us driving up and down the street very slowly 3 times, the neighbors reported a truck driving around thinking we were casing the neighborhood for perhaps some unlawful activity. Aunt Patti, mom and I were laughing hysterically. Mom showed him my new coat and told them what happened. Whew!! She and Patti convinced the officers we were actual residents and we belonged to the neighborhood block watch group. The policemen thought I was cute and I agreed!!
Mom told the officers “if that was just a regular coat, you may not have cared, but since it’s an Ohio State Buckeye coat…you probably thought we were okay”. The officers laughed and said “you may have a point”!!! They wished us a good evening and to drive safely. I heard Aunt Patti and mom saying how nice it was to live in a neighborhood that people care enough to call authorities over possible suspicious activity and we thought it was great that the Columbus Police Officers were on the ball.
We went home and I haven’t worn the coat since. I’m saving it for next years Rose Bowl Football game. Go Bucks!!!
