I'm Babe, a Jack Russell Terrier
My name is Babe and my mom writes letters from pets to their owners.
I am a Jack Russell Terrier. Most people call us…Hyper Dogs….I am no exception to the rule. When my mom heard about my breed and how much fun she could have with one, she read a book before she started looking for me….and she still brought me home…and I am so glad she did. We love each other.
She knew that exercise was the key to good behavior, so we started walking a mile everyday. After our walk, my mom fixed me her homemade chicken stew made with boiled chicken, brown rice and mixed veggies…yum yum. Of course my regular food is sitting out all the time. Later on in the evenings, we get out a big bag of tennis balls about 25 or so. Mom throws them and I retrieve them. We do that a couple of times at night and then I like to go to bed. I weigh ll pounds and I am now eleven years old and I am very cute!! (Please see page one, upper right of the website…that’s me)
When Mom brought me home, we would walk with my little buddy, Bandit, a bossy little Yorky who loved me and I loved her. Then Mom and I moved to Columbus, Ohio for work purposes. She told me if I would move with her, she would design a brand new bedroom for me…cable TV and all. I have attached a photo for you.
I had no one to walk with…you know “dog walk”…I didn’t have a partner. Shortly after we moved, I met Pebbles, an apricot Poodle who was very pretty. She was 13 years old. Pebbles and her mom, Patti…and my mom and I started walking every night, rain, snow or sunshine. (Not in lightning!) The winters can be pretty brutal around here, so Patti purchased pink boots and an extra sweater for Pebbles. She loved the entire outfit. Mom bought me some boots too and I looked at her and asked…”you want me to do what????”
We so enjoyed our time together. I went to her house and she came to mine. In the fall, (at age 15) Pebbles became very ill and went to Pet Heaven. We all were very sad. Mom, Patti and I kept walking and I kept waiting for Pebbles to come with us. Finally, I had to accept it that she was not coming back.
Mom wrote a letter on behalf of Pebbles. It was “A Message from Pet Heaven. Pebbles mom and dad cherished the letter. She said she appreciated the letter so much that there should be a service for Sympathy Pet Letters for other pet owners who were experiencing the loss of a pet. She, along with my Aunt Lynne in Cincinnati and moms Aunt Sissy in Indiana, encouraged me to start this business.
Shortly after that, my mom was listening to a television program called Gary and Drenda (Keesee) and in their conversation, said that God had gifted each of us with a special talent to help ourselves and help each other.
With those encouragements, Mom named the business, A Message From Pet Heaven. She had a website designed and the business began to grow. Once this started, some friends asked mom to write a Happy Birthday letter from their pet to the pet’s father. Another asked to send a get well letter from her cat, to the owner who was in the hospital…..and the list continued, such as…Thank You for Rescuing Me…Happy Mothers Day, Happy Fathers Day, Encouragement, seasonal greetings such as Christmas, Valentines, etc. This side of the business is named A Message FromYour Pet.
We all continued to walk our mile each day. Mom and Patti had some good conversations, but….”how can I say this….their conversations were “borrrrring”!! Neither of them knew the important stuff to talk about like new treats, latest styles in sweaters and coats, new Doggie Deer Poop cologne, flashing dog colors, etc. etc.
Then a wonderful thing happened. Patti welcomed a brand new Red Poodle into her home and named her Madison…..she is sooooooooo cute…..and yep….she loves to walk too. We have a lot of fun together. No one in the neighborhood knows mom and Patti by name….but they know us as Babe and Madison!!! The two of us “rock”!!
Sometimes mom shares some of the details of the requests she has for Pet Letters. I remember one doggie named Fonzie, who had big ears and a Buddha belly. His daddy loved him. After arriving in Pet Heaven, St. Luke started to give Fonzie a makeover, and he suggested that he may want to trim his ears a little. Fonzie told Dr. Luke to leave his ears alone ‘cause his daddy liked ‘em that way!!! St. Luke and Fonzie were laughing so much. He really enjoys Fonzie. It is our understanding that Fonzie’s mom and dad have now adopted a new puppy and Fonzie is so happy for them. Fonzie's picture is on the "pet stories" page.
Anyone who knows about Jack Russell Terriers, know they were born with tennis balls in their mouths….I am no exception. I love to play ball. Mom thinks she is so coy when she spells out the word B A L L. She actually thinks I don’t know how to spell “ball”. Huh!! After we moved, mom had a pond made especially for me on our back porch. It is so cool. It has a fountain in it. My balls get pretty dirty out in the yard with dirt and mulch…not to mention the saliva. So, I wash my balls in the pond. I have it pictured for you. Okay it’s a picture of my back end, but I was working…okay?? LOL
Getting back to some pet stories, mom received a request from Donna in New York about her beautiful black Chow Chow had passed away. Her name was Maia. She was special too. She also is pictured on the “pet stories” page. This Chow Chow had stolen the hearts of many in the neighborhood and the community. She was so fluffy, some people thought she was a little bear. When she went to Pet Heaven they had a full page story of her published in a local newspaper. Her mom sent my mom a copy and it was beautiful. Donna and hubby waited a while and they just sent a picture of the new addition to their family. The new baby is an apricot Chow Chow. Mom has attached a picture of their new baby named Ari. He is so cute!!
As mentioned earlier, I am 11 years old and sometimes it gets pretty humid here and when I walk in all the humidity, I get really hot. She purchased a really great stroller for me to ride in and cool off. We have bottled water in there too for Madison and me. We also have plastic poop bags we carry too. I have never figured out why my mom picks up my poop every time I “do my business”…what….is she collecting it or what??? Humans…they crack me up!!
This stroller I’m talking about….it is also used for my fear of firecrackers during Memorial Day and 4th of July. They really scare me, so mom puts me in the stroller and zips me up so the firecrackers can’t get to me. I am so blessed!!! I have included a picture of my “wheels” for your enjoyment.
I heard mom talking on the phone the other day about getting some help. I am always very helpful with my mom. Sometimes she appreciates it and sometimes.....well you know how that is. The other night she was up pretty late trying to get caught up on some work. She took a little break and went into another room. I took the opportunity to get on her computer and add a touch of my humor into some of the letters. She came back into the room and there I was (see attached picture) caught in the act. She just happened to have the camera in her hand. If I look a little sheepish...well it's because "She caught me"!!! Really cute huh??
